Spy Hill became an incorporated village on April 22, 1910. It sits within the Rural Municipality of Spy Hill No. 152, at the intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 600.
The community's school eventually closed for lack of students, and children are now bused about 27 kilometres to Langenburg. Today the village is home to the Northland Power – Spy Hill Power Plant. It is also the hometown of former NHL player Jeff Odgers.
